The first day of the Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships featured three Wolf Pack heptathletes in action, with four of the seven events in the books.
led the trio of Pack athletes on Day 1, sitting in sixth place with 2,925 points. closed the day in eighth at 2,847 points, with in ninth with 2,811 points.
Colorado State's Lexie Keller led the 13-woman field after Day 1, with 3,498 points.
The Pack trio combined for a strong start to the heptathlon, all finishing in the top eight of the opening event, the 100-meter hurdles. Smrt paced the group with a fifth-place finish in 14.72, with Kadrmas (14.80) and Sommerfeld (14.82) finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.
Smrt and Kadrmas tied for seventh in the high jump, each clearing 1.56 meters, while Sommerfeld tied for 11th, clearing 1.53 meters.
Sommerfeld led the trio in the next event, the shot put, notching a top distance of 11.34 meters to finish tied for fifth. Kadrmas was 10th at 10.04 meters, with Smrt coming in 12th at 9.08 meters.
Smrt closed the night with a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking a time of 25.85.Sommerfeld was sixth in 26.13, with Kadrmas 10th in 26.88.
