For the fourth year in a row, the Nevada Alumni Association has partnered with the Big Reno Coat Drive to help provide coats, hats and mittens to Washoe County School District K-12 students. Local organizations Education Alliance and Junior League of Reno are also partners in this year’s event, which looks a little different in order to keep everything and everyone safe.
“Over the past 3 years, the Nevada Alumni Association has helped to collect almost 500 coats for the Big Reno Coat Drive.”
The main event this year is a Drive Up and Drop Off Coat Drive scheduled for Saturday, November 14 from noon to 4 p.m. in front of Morrill Hall. Donors are asked to stay in their cars while staff and volunteers help with the donation process. For members of the University community who can’t make the event, donation barrels will be located at Morrill Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Monday, November 9 and running through Friday, November 13. Due to COVID-19, only new items with tags can be accepted.
“This year, with the partnership between the Education Alliance, Washoe County School District, the Junior League of Reno and the Nevada Alumni Association, we hope to ensure that every child in Reno has a warm coat for winter,” said event organizer Emily Sharick in the University’s Office of Alumni Relations. “Over the past 3 years, the Nevada Alumni Association has helped to collect almost 500 coats for the Big Reno Coat Drive.”
Clothing donations will be accepted through November 30 at other Big Reno Coat Drive locations. Monetary donations are accepted year-round on the BRCD site. Questions should be directed to Emily Sharick in the Office of Alumni Relations.
