Twenty-three programs, including the University's on-campus food pantry, will raise funds for projects that positively impact the campus and local communities.

Twenty-three programs, including the University's on-campus food pantry, will raise funds for projects that positively impact the campus and local communities.

During Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3, the 性爱五色天, Reno is asking for community assistance to raise funds for campus projects and initiatives that positively impact the University and local community through its Crowdfund Nevada campaign. The campaign includes more than 20 programs in need of donations to support student well-being, faculty research, club sports and other efforts. 

On Dec. 3, community members can support one or more of these programs by making a donation online. Interested individuals can view the full list of programs on the or learn more about several programs in need of support below.

ASUN Pack Provisions

The Pack Provisions, the University’s on-campus food pantry, is raising funds to support University students in need. One out of three undergraduate students reported being very food insecure within the last six months, according to a 2024 Civic Engagement survey conducted by the University’s Center for Student Engagement (CSE). The pantry, which offers perishable and nonperishable foods to University community members, helped nearly 6,000 students during the 2023-2024 school year and currently has an average of 200 visits per week.

Latino Research Center

The Latino Research Center, devoted to meeting the educational needs and goals of the state and honoring the intellectual and cultural capital of the Latino presence in Nevada, is raising funds for a mural project within Edmund J. Cain Hall. The mural will encapsulate the themes of unity, diversity and empowerment, reflecting the richness of Latino experiences in the state. It will be painted by local Northern Nevada artist Edwin Martinez Escobar. 

 

Orvis School of Nursing

The Orvis School of Nursing is seeking donations to support the Pelter Endowed Fund for Nursing Research. The fund empowers nursing faculty to engage in cutting-edge studies on topics including cancer survivorship, Alzheimer's, cardiovascular disease and improving the health and wellbeing of nurses to create a stronger workforce. Research supported by this fund helps to inform how nursing students will care for patients and themselves and ensure students are well-prepared for future trends in nursing and healthcare.

 

School of Social Work Student Emergency Fund

From time to time, students can experience unexpected emergencies or change of circumstances that impact their ability to remain in the program and complete their degrees. The School of Social Work is seeking donations to establish a Student Emergency Fund to provide financial relief to students in times of crisis or emergency situations. Awards would be made on a need basis to both undergraduate and graduate students within the school.

 

Student Outreach Clinic

The is raising funds for its challenge grant, meaning for every dollar raised, another dollar will be generously matched by the Nell J. Redfield Foundation. The SOC offers free medical attention including exams, vaccines and referral services to the uninsured or underinsured community in Northern Nevada. The clinic provides early clinical training for Nevada’s future physicians. According to County Health Rankings and Roadmaps, 23% of Washoe County residents were uninsured in 2015 and 17,392 children went without health insurance. It is the goal of the clinic to reach this population and provide them with the medical attention they need to improve healthcare in the region and throughout Nevada.
