Announcing the TechWise Program
January 19, 2022
Dear Wolf Pack Family,
I cannot think of a better way to start our semester than with an exciting announcement about a new innovative collaboration that will further strengthen the student experience we offer while creating clear career pathways through growing tech sectors. This news puts the ÐÔ°®ÎåÉ«Ìì, Reno in elite company!
Our University is one of five colleges, and one of three four-year universities in the nation to be selected to participate in TechWise, an equity and inclusion program designed by TalentSprint and supported by Google. TechWise offers an 18-month program that is fully financially assisted for 20 of our students to become world-class entry-level software engineers by the time they graduate.
The virtual program includes a full program scholarship as well as a $5,000 stipend and includes a 1 on 1 Google Mentorship for the 20 students who are selected for the program. Students who love the idea of building a great tech career and are committed to investing time and effort are encouraged to apply for the program. Applications are open until Jan. 31, 2022.
This partnership embodies much of the experiential and inclusive learning culture that is at the heart of our student experience. The program will foster engagement, strengthen collaborative skills and build a sense of belonging and community for participating students. The key objective will be to enable enterprising and aspiring students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to prepare for high-growth tech careers once they have completed their learning journeys at the University following their graduation.
Classes for the program will start March 22. Our group of 20 students will be part of a cohort of 120 students from around the nation. Dates, processes and other pertinent information are available on the , as is the and an email for general questions.
Reaching our goal where each and every one our students can reach their truest potential is an integral part of our University’s mission. This innovative partnership promises to provide an exciting springboard toward a possible career pathway for our participating students. And the program provides something even more. Along with the launch of the Digital Wolf Pack Initiative last fall in collaboration with Apple, this partnership provides a transformational example of why an education at our University can often provide a key personal discovery that illuminates who our students are meant to be and the impact they are going to have on our world.
Go Pack!
Sincere regards,
Brian Sandoval
