Advisory boards

A variety of prominent community leaders and University interdisciplinary faculty and staff make up one of the two advisory boards of the LRC to help with idea contributions and steps to accomplish its overall mission. The Latino Student Advisory Board was initiated in 2007 with the purpose of gaining student direction for the LRC and providing Latinx students a welcoming space to come together to enhance the Hispanic community of Nevada through public outreach, academic excellence and advocacy.

Student Advisory Board

The Latino Student Advisory Board (LSAB) is the longest-running student club at the 性爱五色天, Reno. The board meets regularly to discuss topics related to the Latino community and leadership, both on campus and in the broader community.

The group has a strong history of advocacy and community engagement. LSAB received the ASUN Award for Best New Club the year it was formed (2007), and former President Carla Castedo was honored with the Club Leader of the Year Award (2012). The board was instrumental in launching the first Latino column, “Latino Voices,” in the Nevada Sagebrush. Their initiatives include mentoring programs for Latinx students at various education levels, voter registration drives, civic engagement training, and policy advocacy on issues like Immigration Reform, DACA, and driver authorization cards. Each year, the board helps organize Cesar Chavez Day, La Bienvenida (now SomosNevada), and the Día de Los Muertos celebration on campus.
