Mission statement
The mission of the University Writing & Speaking Center is to assist our students in any stage of the writing process through peer-to-peer consultation and small-group instruction. Through this, we strive to create an academic community of strong and confident writers and presenters, both at the 性爱五色天, Reno and in Northern Nevada.
Core values
- All students at the 性爱五色天, Reno seeking assistance with their writing are entitled to free consultation services at the University Writing & Speaking Center. We are friendly, and professional, and treat all students and consultants with respect.
- Sessions at the University Writing & Speaking Center are constructive and cooperative. We are not a drop-off editing or proofreading service, but we work with students to help them become stronger writers and presenters through interaction, feedback, and consultation. We refrain from making predictions about the grade a student will receive on a paper, focusing instead on improving or strengthening the content.
- Our consultants are sensitive to students’ writing and presenting abilities, and we prioritize building confidence in each student.
- We make every effort to accommodate students’ scheduling needs. While students are strongly encouraged to make an appointment using our scheduling system, we do our best to accommodate walk-ins. Appointments are capped at 45 minutes per day to serve as many students as possible. During sessions, all writing and speaking consultants respect their time with the student. Students must arrive prepared and on time.
- The methods used by the University Writing & Speaking Center are evaluated regularly to ensure effectiveness and innovation. We gather feedback from our clientele and undergo assessments conducted by our staff.
- We respect confidentiality and do not disclose personal information about our clientele, staff, or anyone affiliated with the University Writing & Speaking Center. Consultants do not ask for personal information during sessions. Consultants document session occurrences and, if requested by the student, can forward this report to the student’s instructor or to the student directly.
- We work closely with our consultants to ensure we provide the best service possible. Recognizing the diversity of our student population, we remain responsive to their evolving needs.
