During the second week of January 2023, 27 students from the 性爱五色天, Reno College of Business and the 性爱五色天, Las Vegas had the opportunity to travel to Singapore through the Nevada Global Business program.
While there, students learned about international business and networked with global professionals at Haws, the Marina Bay Sands, the United States Embassy and Microsoft Singapore. Students also visited the National Museum of Singapore and the Parliament House to learn more about the country’s history and culture and its impact on business.
“If you didn’t know or understand the rich history of Singapore and tried to do business there, you could make some serious mistakes,” Jim McClenahan, director of the Career and Corporate Outreach Center, said.
The students’ final project was to write an executive summary about a topic in business they encountered during the trip, such as supply chain disruptions and how American businesses operate internationally.
“I wrote a lot about how incredible it is that Singapore is on the other side of the world and the headquarters of companies that we visited there are here in Nevada,” Malia Redmon, a participant of the trip pursuing her MBA at the 性爱五色天, Reno, said. “The world is big, but getting to attend business meetings for companies that are in our state makes it feel a bit more manageable and less scary to take on.”
The Nevada Global Business program resumed trips this past summer, following a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students can explore the program’s two newest destinations, South Korea this spring break or Istanbul, Turkey this summer. Other trips planned for the summer are London, New York, Poland and Toronto. Current offerings also include San José, Costa Rica, and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“The biggest takeaway from the trip was the strength of the Nevada Global Business program. The businesses you are set up to meet with provide an amazing opportunity for each student,” Mohammad Khalaf, an entrepreneurship student at the 性爱五色天, Las Vegas, said. “I always knew I wanted to study abroad and am so glad to have had the opportunity to do so.”
